The Los Angeles Chargers will look a little bit different when they take the practice field this summer. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has come up with the idea for each player to have patches on their practice jerseys to represent different accomplishments they have had throughout their careers.

Harbaugh always seems to be thinking outside the box and this is the kind of idea that can build team morale and respect within the group. Young players can look at veteran players and get an idea of what they have done at the professional level.

When asked about the idea, Harbaugh had this to say:

“I just like a resume. It kinda reminds me of a general who has different patches. Any playoff appearance, captain, it’s on there. If they have any NFL record or Charger record, or the important awards- Man of the Year, All-Pro, Block of Granite award,” Harbaugh said. “Someday they’ll be able to put that jersey up in a frame, put it on a wall. Say something really good about themselves and what they accomplished as a pro football player. I like that.”

It's a terrific idea and one that should carry over to the regular season, though the league likely has rules against that. Either way, other teams in the league could be inclined to follow suit.

Harbaugh is entering his second year as coach of the Chargers and after a trip to the playoffs last season, big things are expected in 2025.

At least for the summer, this will be an interesting aspect at Chargers camp. Some may see it as quirky, but count Derwin James as a fan of the idea.

"I love it. I love everything about it. At the end of the day, this is a professional league, but when you can keep us connected and get a little bragging rights in the locker room, it's good.

Guys want to compete for their jersey to look like that, too. It's a lot of fun," said James, in speaking to Eric Smith of the team's official website
