Chargers' Eric Rogers makes huge case for roster spot before leaving with injury image

The Los Angeles Chargers improved to 2-0 in the preseason following a 27-13 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. 

It was a huge day for the defense, which looked like it was in midseason form, but it was an undrafted free agent who had the biggest impact. 

Eric Rogers had two interceptions in the game, one of which he returned for a touchdown. Undrafted out of Rutgers, Rogers made a case for inclusion on the 53-man roster with this performance, but it didn't end well. 

With less than two minutes to play, the Chargers were kicking off following a touchdown. Rogers went down on the play and stayed down for a few minutes as trainers checked on him. Jim Harbaugh, clearly feeling the stress of the team's early-season injury woes, looked dejected.

Rogers was helped off the field, and it looked like it may have been an ankle injury. It was a tough break following a huge day for Rogers in which he showed great athleticism, wonderful anticipation and elite speed. Here, he almost baits Saints quarterback Jake Haener into this throw and makes a great play on the ball. 

Rogers is in a battle to make the roster at a deep cornerback position, but it will be hard to overlook this performance. However, an injury that causes him to miss a lot of time will delay that, at the least. 

We will wait to hear more information on the status of Rogers.
