The Los Angeles Chargers just gave left tackle Rashawn Slater a huge contract extension. One of the best left tackles in the league, Slater is a huge part of the team's plans in 2025 and going forward.
The team and its fans will be holding their breath as Slater was carted off the practice field on Thursday, in a scene that did not look good.
As the medical cart reached the sideline, Rashawn Slater threw his helmet in frustration. He slammed his hand onto the cart. A trainer placed a towel over Slater’s head. Slater was then helped inside The Bolt by two trainers.

Rashawn Slater suffered an injury at Chargers practice today. Trainers out, cart out, teammates hugging him.

Until there's clarity here, it's a major concern for the Chargers. Especially with the iOL being problematic even with both tackles on the field.
It seems that it's a leg injury for the fifth-year pro. The cart having to take a player off the field is always an ominous sign, but Justin Fields returned to Jets practice the day after being carted out of practice earlier this summer. Still, this could be a massive loss for the Chargers.

Jim Harbaugh places a major focus on the offensive line and he has built one of the best units in the league with the Chargers. The team did select Joe Alt with the No. 5 overall pick last year and he was a left tackle in college at Notre Dame. If Slater's injury turns out to be serious, the likely next step for the team would be to move Alt over to the left side and get Trey Pipkins III back into the starting rotation.
The hope will be that Slater can make a quick recovery and get back on the field as soon as possible, but until that is confirmed one way or another, a pall has been cast over Chargers training camp.
