The Green Bay Packers have been trying to figure out what to do with their wide receiver room since the offseason began. With so many bodies competing for limited spots, it's likely one will be traded. During their preseason game on Saturday, the receivers didn’t have a strong showing — but rookie Matthew Golden stood out.
“It's incredibly concerning that some of these guys are dropping passes that hit them square in the chest, but it's equally comforting that it looks like Matthew Golden's hands are as advertised. Matt LaFleur wasn't kidding,” 247 Sports’ Zach Jacobson wrote.
On Tuesday, the Packers' depth took another hit when Romeo Doubs went down during practice with what appeared to be a back injury.
“Romeo Doubs is down. Small collision with Evan Williams on a deep incompletion and Doubs hit the ground. Very, very slow to get up. Appears to be his lower back,” The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman wrote.
Doubs has spent the entire offseason trying to silence trade rumors while navigating other distractions. At one point, he even posted a cryptic photo of Stephen Curry, which many interpreted as a farewell.
“The post quickly caught the attention of football fans, many of whom saw it as a sign that something might be going on behind the scenes in Green Bay. While nothing has been confirmed, the image sparked speculation that Doubs may be frustrated with his role or future with the team,” Steelers Nation’s Anthony G Halkias II wrote.

Whether the Packers actually plan to move Doubs or not, his injury — if serious — is a blow to the team. Doubs was seen going to the Hutson center with a trainer following the collison. Jayden Reed is already questionable for Week 1, and if Doubs is unavailable too, Golden could be forced into a major role in his NFL debut.
That’s far from ideal for the Packers, who are heading into a crucial divisional matchup to open the season. With injuries starting to pile up, Green Bay can’t afford to be short-handed when it matters most.
