The Cleveland Browns welcomed a horde of rookies to their roster on both sides of the ball. In total, the Browns had seven draft picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, spending two at the running back position. The Browns drafted Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins in the second round, and circled back to take Tennessee running back Dylan Sampson on Day Three.
During mandatory mini-camp, the Browns seemed to want to unlock a new level to Sampson's game. According to Running Backs coach Duce Staley, the Browns had Sampson working with the wide receivers.
“(Sampson has been) meeting with [Wide Receivers coach Chad O'Shea] in there and going over some of the receiver splits and routes and just being able to just take his game and expand it," Staley said. "It’s been awesome.”
This would make sense if the Browns were trying to have a "Smash and Dash" concept in terms of their running back duo. Judkins would be the power runner while Sampson would the more dual-threat receiving back. If it works out, the Browns could have their own version of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.
