Let's try this again.

The last time a Lance was drafted out of North Dakota State, it didn't work out particularly well. The San Francisco 49ers snagged Trey Lance at No. 2 overall in 2021. He's already on his third NFL team, from the 'Niners to the Cowboys and now the Chargers, where Lance is the QB3.

But there's another Lance coming through the NDSU pipeline: Bryce, Trey's younger brother.

And no matter the legacy of Trey's selection, don't let that cloud the vision for Bryce. He's a legitimate NFL Draft prospect himself.

Bryce was just named No. 34 in the country on Bruce Feldman's Freak List for The Athletic, thanks to his physical abilities.

Not a QB but instead a wide receiver, Bryce has special potential.

"Trey Lance’s younger brother is a special athlete, too," Feldman writes. "At 6-3, 207 pounds, he vertical jumped 40 inches this offseason and broad jumped 10-10. That kind of explosiveness shows up on the field. The younger Lance set an NDSU record last season with 17 touchdown receptions, which led the FCS in 2024. The first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference pick had 75 catches for 1,071 yards for NDSU."

Those are quite the numbers, both off the field and on the field.

He's got NFL size and athleticism, and he's got the production to go with it.

The same concerns about NDSU's schedule will exist with Bryce, but there have been a bunch of successful Bison products in the NFL.

Just because Trey didn't make it as a quarterback doesn't mean Bryce can't make it as a wide receiver.

He'll have plenty of eyes on him this season to see just what he can do, and odds are, those onlookers will come away quite impressed.
