Browns’ Shedeur Sanders reveals why he doesn’t want dad Deion at camp: 'You can't be proud of me right now' image

Shedeur Sanders is trying to do his best at his first NFL training camp.

In the midst of that, he doesn't necessarily want his dad around.

That's not an illogical thought. It's just more notable because the legendary Deion Sanders is his father.

You won't be seeing Deion at Cleveland Browns camp anytime soon, though. Shedeur has asked him to stay away.

The rookie fifth-round pick has explained already this summer why that is, but he was asked about it again on Monday, and Shedeur provided a thoughtful answer to reporters:

"I look at my own point of view, like, I don't want him coming to see me right now because I want to get to where I want to go, then for him to come and see me. I don't want him to come and see me get a couple reps and he's cheering like a good dad. Nah, you can't be proud of me right now. I've got to get to where I'm going, and there's a lot I've got to do to get there. I just want everything that I'm doing to just focus on this time, and I don't want no distractions. We know how the media and everybody would take it and would take away from the team, just from him being my own dad showing up. It's a gift and a curse at the same time."

Shedeur shows time and again that he understands the weight of his last name. It's the right call to keep a possible distraction away from his new team.

He and his dad of course hope there's a day they can share positive moments together at NFL fields. Sanders has to work to get there, though.

The good news for Shedeur is that he was back at practice Monday after missing Saturday with arm soreness.

He's still got to impress in a four-man QB competition that also includes Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel. That won't be easy.

But the No. 144 overall pick is focused and has his eye on ascending the depth chart and making a name for himself. Then, pops can show up.
