Lando Norris bounced back from a nightmare Canadian Grand Prix to put his McLaren on pole in Austria.
Norris was forced to retire four laps from the end in Montreal when he dramatically collided with team-mate and Drivers' Championship leader Oscar Piastri.
Piastri's lead over Norris at the top of the standings is 22 points heading into Sunday's action at the Red Bull Ring, but the Englishman drove superbly to claim P1 ahead of Charles Leclerc.
That McLaren/Ferrari formation was repeated on the second row, with Piastri starting third ahead of Lewis Hamilton.
Reigning world champion Max Verstappen was down in seventh as a tough season continued for Red Bull, behind his demoted former team-mate Liam Lawson in the Racing Bull and Canadian Grand Prix victor George Russell in P5.
The start to the race was delayed when Carlos Sainz first failed to get his car off the grid for the formation lap before the back of his Williams burst into flames.
Things have gone from bad to worse for Carlos 😩

Here is how the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix played out.
Who won the F1 race today?
Lando Norris narrowed the gap at the top of the standings with a super flag-to-flag triumph after coming through sustained pressure from his team-mate Oscar Piastri.
The required second formation lap took one off the race total, knocking it down to 70. Piastri started sharply and got up into second behind Norris out of turn one.
Max Verstappen's hordes of fans from the nearby Netherlands were soon disappointed when Kimi Antonelli locked up his Mercedes into a congested turn three and crashed into the side of the world champion's Red Bull. Both men were out of the race, ending a run of 31 consecutive points finishes for Verstappen.
Collisions will have been at the forefront of many a mind in the McLaren garage as Piastri and Norris thrillingly went at each other. The championship leader made the pass on lap 11. Some wheel-to-wheel racing followed, before Norris got his position back
Piastri locked up going down the inside into turn four on lap 20, a move that earned admonishment over the radio from the paddock. Norris held out and pitted at the end of the lap. His team-mate's ploy to stay out longer backfired and the Briton had a handy lead in excess of six seconds once the first round of stops was concluded.
Norris and his crew getting their tactics right at that point proved decisive and he had no further worries until being informed by his team that he had front wing damage with six laps remaining and Piastri just a couple of seconds back.
Ultimately, Norris would not be denied, with Charles Leclerc completing the podium behind the McLarens and Lewis Hamilton in fourth.
Gabriel Bortoleto claimed his first F1 points as he finished eighth in the Sauber, with team-mate Nico Hulkeberg also getting on the board.
Yuki Tsunoda was the last finisher in 16th, capping a dismal outing for Red Bull at their home Grand Prix.
