'Sorry to disappoint': Nick Kyrgios absent from Wimbledon for the third straight year image

Nick Kyrgios is set to miss Wimbledon for the third consecutive year after confirming a setback in his recovery from injury.

The 30-year-old Aussie tennis star was widely expected to return for the grass-court season, his strongest surface, but announced via social media on Tuesday that he will not compete.

"Just wanted to give everyone a quick update, I've hit a small setback in my recovery and unfortunately won't make it back for grass season this year," Kyrgios wrote on Instagram.

"I know how much you've all been looking forward to seeing me out there, and I'm genuinely sorry to disappoint.

"This is just a bump in the road, though, and I'm already working hard to get back stronger than ever.

"Thank you for all your continued support, it means everything to me. See you soon!"

Kyrgios has not played at Wimbledon since his 2022 final loss to Novak Djokovic. Since then, a combination of injuries, including knee, foot, and wrist issues, has derailed his career.

An earlier recurrence of his knee injury also forced Kyrgios to withdraw from this year’s French Open at Roland-Garros.

The former world No. 13 has missed all four Grand Slam tournaments in 2023 and 2024. He most recently played tennis in late March at the Miami Open.
