It has been revealed that a knee setback was behind Nick Kyrgios' late withdrawal from Roland-Garros.
The Australian tennis star was set to feature in the men's doubles draw alongside fellow countryman Jordan Thompson, but plans changed days out from the French Open.
Thompson, speaking after his first-round singles loss to Jiri Lehecka, detailed Kyrgios' "disappointing" injury.
He explained that the 30-year-old suffered the issue while training in Australia.

"Nick was really pumped to play here (in Paris)," Thompson said.
"He kept messaging me every week (asking) 'You’re good to go for dubs?', because I was the one that was wasn’t able to be on court.
"And I know he was back home in Australia, training on clay. (But) a few days (ago) Nick told me that he’s done something to his knee. So, unfortunately, he just couldn’t be here.
"He was pretty down. I mean, he (said to) me, ‘How much more of, you know, of these injuries can he take?’.
"I just feel for him, because as much as he says things in the media, I think he loves playing tennis ... so it’s disappointing that he can’t be on the court."

Kyrgios most recently played tennis in late March at the Miami Open.
The former world No. 13 has struggled with several injuries in the past few years, missing all four grand slam tournaments in 2023 and 2024.
Jason Kubler will now partner Thompson in the men's doubles.

Thompson was one of six Australian players to suffer opening round defeats at Roland-Garros on Monday (local time).
Daria Saville, Kimberly Birrell, Maya Joint, Chris O'Connell and Aleksandar Vukic were all on the wrong end of straight-set results.
It wasn't all bad news though, with Alexei Popyrin, Ajla Tomljanovic and the recently naturalised Daria Kasatkina progressing to the second round of the grand slam tournament.
