Alex de Minaur has exited Roland-Garros in the second round.

The Australian suffered a 2-6 2-6 6-4 6-3 6-2 loss to Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik.

After taking out the first two sets, 'The Demon' looked on track to cruise into the third round of the clay court tournament, but his unseeded opponent had other plans.

Bublik turned up the aggression, and the typically resilient de Minaur didn't have the answers.

The world No. 9's serving particularly hurt him, making just 48 per cent of his first serves.

It's a disappointing outcome for the 26-year-old, who made the quarter-finals in Paris last year, and reached the last eight in Melbourne at the start of the reason.

He is yet to crack the semi-finals of a grand slam event.

De Minaur's early exit could see him slip outside of the ATP top 10 after the tournament, depending on the performance of players around him in the rankings.

"This one definitely caught me by surprise, especially the way the first two sets went," fellow Australian player Thanasi Kokkinakis said on Nine.

"Bublik came out in the third set and was super aggressive – Demon didn't really know how to handle it."

It was a mixed day on court for the other Aussies in action.

Adam Walton went down in straight sets to No. 17 seed Andrey Rublev, leaving Alexei Popyrin as the last hope in the men's singles draw.

The recently naturalised Daria Kasatkina, meanwhile, progressed to the third round with a clinical 6-4 6-2 win over local hope Leolia Jeanjean.
