Storm boss provides Will Warbrick update amid three-month absence image

Will Warbrick has been sidelined for over three months.

The Melbourne winger hasn't played since Round 4 against the Dragons, as he continues to recover from a concussion.

In promising news, Storm football boss Frank Ponissi has declared that Warbrick is making "good progress".

As part of his Round 17 injury report, Ponissi revealed that the former rugby sevens star has started training on his own.

Once he is back at full fitness, Warbrick is set to return to action via the Storm's NSW or Queensland Cup feeder clubs.

"Will is making good progress," he said.

"He has started training on his own and is getting ready to join the main group.

"He’s essentially doing a mini-preseason to ensure his body is back to full fitness.

"Once he’s ready for full training, he will be available to make his return at feeder level."

Warbrick suffered a head knock in February's Indigenous vs. Maori All-Stars game.

He played two NRL games to start the season before feeling the delayed effects of a concussion.

In April, coach Craig Bellamy described the 27-year-old's status as "complicated".

"To be quite honest, I don’t really understand it. It’s fairly complicated with the head knock," he said.

"He got the head knock in the Indigenous and Maori All-Stars game, and he played a week or two after that, and then he had delayed symptoms.

"I’m not 100 per cent sure what is happening. He hasn’t even started training yet.

"It hasn’t been great for us or Will."

Warbrick made his Storm debut in 2023 after transitioning from rugby sevens, and topped the club's try scoring tally that season with 17 four-pointers.

In 51 appearances to date, he has scored 33 tries.

The 27-year-old has not been named in the Storm's squad for Round 17 as he continues his recovery.
