'Learnt my lessons': Trent Loiero reflects on recent form ahead of Origin debut image

Trent Loiero is confident he has "learnt" from a tough few weeks as he prepares to make his Maroons debut.

The Storm lock has been under fire for his discipline recently, particularly after a difficult loss to the Raiders.

He was criticised by Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy for giving away multiple penalties during the Magic Round clash, including a high tackle that led to Canberra's winning penalty goal.

Despite some underwhelming results in clubland, Loiero is "ready" for his first appearance in the Origin arena.

The 24-year-old was included in Billy Slater's Queensland squad last year but has been promoted to the 17 for the 2025 opener.

He notes how he will look to control his aggression when he comes off the bench next Wednesday.

"(Aggression) has always been there – it might have just come out a bit more in the past few weeks … I've learnt my lesson (from the Raiders game)," Loiero said, via NRL.com.

"I think aggression's good, but as long as it's controlled aggression, so from two weeks ago, I've learnt my lessons, and Wednesday night we'll be ready to go.

"I'm going to be looking to put my best foot forward this week and really enjoy the week, soak it all up, and Wednesday night, I'll be ready.

"I think that's your job as a utility player is to bring energy and bring a bit of spark, so I'll definitely be looking to do that."

Storm and Maroons teammate Cameron Munster is also confident Loiero can find the right balance.

"(Controlling that aggression) is a hard one," he said.

"When you go out there, you always want to play with passion and aggression, but you don't want to go over the line ... so he'll learn from that Canberra game.

"All he can do is just keep playing good footy like he has, and he can prove all the critics wrong.

"I'm very happy for him and his family, and I can't wait to see him run out there."
