Selwyn Cobbo will be a Dolphin—but not until 2026.
After weeks of speculation—and three weekends in reserve grade—the Queensland Origin star has agreed to join cross town rivals, the Dolphins, on a one-year deal for 2026.
Intriguingly, the deal leaves the door open for Cobbo to potentially link with Mal Meninga at the Perth Bears when the new side enters the NRL in 2027.
This morning's announcement follows criticism of Broncos management who have been reluctant to grant Cobbo an early release despite being on the outer at Red Hill in 2025, having rejected previous approaches from both North Queensland and St. George Illawarra.

“I don’t understand why they wouldn’t let him go, and free up some money,” Gorden Tallis said earlier this week on Fox Sports.
Meanwhile, Dolphins’ CEO Terry Reader said the Redcliffe-based club is looking forward to what Cobbo will bring to their squad in 2026.
“Selwyn is an accomplished player who has done some amazing things at both Origin and NRL level already,” Reader said.
“But we believe he has untapped potential to go to even greater heights in our game and are excited about what he can do in a Dolphins jersey.”
At the Dolphins, Cobbo will be reunited with several former Broncos team-mates including Herbie Farnworth and Jamayne Isaako.
