Darren Lockyer has named Robert Toia as a potential Queensland debutant this year.
With the State of Origin series opener approaching, the Maroons legend has floated the Roosters rookie as a candidate for coach Billy Slater's back-line.
The 20-year-old has slotted nicely into the Tricolours' system in his first NRL season, scoring three tries and bagging three assists in nine appearances.
Toia's inclusion would be surprising, but Lockyer has outlined a potential scenario where he could be utilised.

He believes that Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow's current form may be enough to warrant him a crack at fullback, which would push Kalyn Ponga out of the side.
If 'The Hammer' moved into the No. 1 jersey, it would also open up a spot in the centres.
"I think there's probably positions in Billy (Slater's) mind that are still up in the air, and the next couple of weeks might determine who gets the nod on a couple of positions," Lockyer said on QLDER.
"We mentioned the new generation coming through. This is hypothetical, but if you move Hammer (Tabuai-Fidow), who have you got coming in to centre?
"They've got Rob Toia ... so there are all these sorts of conversations.
"There might be some names sitting beside other names, (and) the next couple of weeks will determine who's going to get it."

Tabuai-Fidow has played all of his seven Origin games at centre despite being employed as the Dolphins' star fullback.
Broncos gun Reece Walsh was originally touted as Queensland's top choice for the No. 1 jersey, but his recent knee injury has ruled him out of contention.
This put Ponga right in the frame for the fullback gig, although his club side, the Knights, have lost four of their five matches.
