REVEALED: What date Jarome Luai has to decide his future by image

Jarome Luai has until April 30 next year to decide whether he’ll commit long-term to the Wests Tigers, a crucial deadline that gives the marquee five-eighth a firm window to weigh up his future at the club.

Despite initial claims that Luai had signed a five-year deal, The Sydney Morning Herald revealed the contract is in fact a two-year agreement with a three-year player option, placing the power squarely in Luai’s hands.

If he takes up the option, he’ll remain at Concord until the end of 2029. If not, he’ll be free to negotiate with rivals from November 1 this year.

The Tigers are said to be optimistic he’ll stay, but the decision will likely hinge on more than just money.

Luai’s loyalty tied to Benji and club’s long-term vision

Luai, 28, is understood to be one of Benji Marshall’s staunchest supporters, and how the club backs their rookie coach could play a key role in the playmaker’s call.

By Round 9 next year, around the same time as the April 30 deadline, Luai will have a clear picture of where the Tigers are heading under Marshall. The club, for their part, remain committed to the coach despite a six-game losing streak earlier in the year.

The Herald also reported that Tigers fullback Jahream Bula is being quietly shopped to rivals by manager Isaac Moses, while discussions are expected soon with South Sydney regarding Jayden Sullivan’s future.

But it’s Luai’s looming deadline that looms largest. Come April 30, the Tigers will know whether their marquee man is all in or ready to test the open market.
