Royce Simmons has set off on the 2025 edition of The Big Walk, with fellow rugby league stalwarts Paul Gallen and Joe Galuvao by his side for the opening stretch from Penrith.

Now in its fourth year, the event is the flagship fundraiser for the Royce Simmons Foundation, which works to boost dementia awareness and fund vital research.

Over the next 10 days, Simmons will cover a route through the Blue Mountains and Central Tablelands, finishing in Mudgee in time for the Panthers’ NRL clash with the Canberra Raiders at Glen Willow Regional Sports Stadium.

Fans can buy ‘virtual steps’

This year, supporters across the globe can take part from afar by purchasing ‘virtual steps’, $30 for 30 steps, to contribute to the cause without lacing up their walking shoes.

The community’s backing over the past three years has already made what organisers describe as “a significant impact” in the fight against dementia. Simmons hopes 2025 will deliver an even bigger result.

With high-profile figures like Gallen lending their presence, the walk isn’t just a physical challenge but a travelling rally for the cause, drawing attention in each town along the route.
