Jahrome Hughes is reportedly set to sign an extension with Melbourne.

While that is no doubt good news for the Storm, it may put them in a tricky situation with the contracts of their other star playmakers.

Origin representative Cameron Munster currently plays five-eighth alongside Hughes, while young gun Jonah Pezet is waiting in the wings.

Munster's contract situation is relatively straightforward – he's locked in until the end of 2027.

Pezet, on the other hand, signed a four-year extension with the Victorian club in December, taking him through to the end of the 2029 NRL season.

However, he reportedly could be free to leave Melbourne if Hughes extends beyond his current deal.

With a new contract on the way for the Dally M Medal winner, Pezet may have the option of negotiating with rival clubs.

His agent, Braith Anasta, addressed the situation, declaring that the Storm still want to keep the 22-year-old.

He also revealed that a loan to a fellow NRL team remains a possibility.

"We haven’t had time to talk about it because he had a clause in his contract and signed a long-term deal not long ago, but if Jahrome stayed and re-signed then he is off-contract," Anasta said on NRL 360.

"But the indications from Melbourne are they want to keep him there.

"I know when we were negotiating, we spoke about a loan for a year, which could be a possibility, maybe in 2027 or wherever that may be.

"But all reports coming out of Melbourne are they still want him there."

Pezet has made 10 first-grade appearances since his 2023 debut.

He sat out most of last season with an ACL injury before suffering a setback in his NSW Cup return earlier this year.

Anasta affirmed that Pezet is committed to Melbourne.

"Well, they have put a lot of faith and trust in him, and he has had a few injuries of late, and they have supported him," Anasta said.

"He loves the club. He doesn’t want to go anywhere."

Should Pezet opt to stay long-term, questions will then be asked regarding Munster's future.

He'll be 33 at the end of his current deal, and Melbourne, depending on their salary cap situation, may have to decide whether he's worth prioritising.

Munster's career speaks for itself, but with Hughes set to earn a reported $1 million per season, it's a situation worth following.

"[Hughes' deal] may [have implications], but he has got a few more years, Cameron – so that is a long way away," Anasta added.

"At the moment, no [he won't leave], but time will tell with that."
