Thirty years after his own national selection, Trent Barrett has spoken of his pride at seeing daughter Halle chosen for the Australian Schoolgirls side for 2025.

Halle’s selection marks the first ever Australian Schoolboys-Schoolgirls pairing for a father and daughter.

“Someone mentioned that the other day and, yeah, it’s something we can both be really proud of,” Barrett said on SEN radio.

“She did really well,” he explained of Halle’s performances at the recent ASSRL Championships in Coffs Harbour where she played centre for NSW Combined Catholic Colleges.

“She’s only 16 and still in Year 11,” Barrett continued from Brisbane where he’s currently an assistant with the Broncos.

“She’s down at the Steelers (in Wollongong) and the Dragons, I never thought I’d have a daughter playing rugby league, but she enjoys it and she’s going well.”

Halle began the 2025 season with the Illawarra Steelers in the Under 17 Lisa Fiaola Cup and is currently on a development deal with the St George Illawarra Dragons NRLW squad.

Trent Barrett, 47, made his first-grade debut in 1996 with the Illawarra Steelers, going on to play 259 NRL matches, 11 Origins and appearing 15 times for the Kangaroos.

He was selected for the Australian Schoolboys in 1995 while attending St Gregory's College in Campbelltown.
