St George Illawarra Dragons fullback Tyrell Sloan may be on the move, with overseas interest emerging just days after the 22-year-old was granted permission to test the open market.

Once touted as a key figure in the Dragons’ long-term future, Sloan has endured a difficult stretch over the past 18 months.

The arrival of Clint Gutherson in 2025 forced Sloan out of the No.1 jersey and into a role on the wing, a move that has not yielded consistent results.

While his attacking flair remains evident, Sloan has struggled with form and defensive reliability, ultimately falling down the pecking order.

This week, he was dropped to NSW Cup, with Corey Allan and Christian Tuipulotu preferred in the top-grade side.

Following a meeting with club officials earlier in the week, Sloan was given permission to explore other opportunities, and it didn’t take long for a potential suitor to emerge.

An overseas club has already expressed interest and made contact with St George Illawarra regarding a possible move.

That team is reportedly on the hunt for a long-term fullback solution, having previously targeted Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad before he recommitted to the New Zealand Warriors.

According to All Out Rugby League, the interested club is none other than Super League outfit Catalans Dragons, who are preparing for life after Sam Tomkins, with the veteran fullback set to retire at the end of the season.

Any deal involving Sloan may require St George Illawarra to contribute financially, as the young back is currently on a reported $500,000 per year contract.

Should a move materialise, it could represent a fresh start for Sloan, whose career has shown glimpses of brilliance but has lacked the consistency needed to reach his full potential.
