The Brisbane Broncos are reportedly exploring a brand refresh for the first time in nearly 25 years.
The club submitted a sleek, minimalist horse head logo to IP Australia for trademark protection.
The new design marks a significant shift from the club’s long-standing visual identity and may hint at changes ahead of the 2026 NRL season.
Although the trademarked image is currently in black and white, it's expected the final version will incorporate the Broncos’ traditional maroon, white, and gold colour scheme.
A club spokesperson spoke to news.com.au, confirming that the new logo design has been officially filed.

“A newly created corporate design was recently submitted to IP Australia. The design has not been approved, accepted or registered at this point,” she said.
The updated design reflects a global branding trend seen across professional sports, where clubs are moving away from detailed, cartoon-like emblems in favour of bold colours, clean lines, and simplified shapes that appeal across digital platforms and modern apparel.
This isn’t the first time NRL teams have opted to modernise their look.
Clubs such as the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Wests Tigers have undergone logo updates in recent decades to remain visually relevant while retaining key elements of their historical identity.

The current Broncos logo was introduced in 2000 and underwent a slight refinement in 2006. That version replaced the original 1988 club crest, which also featured a stylised horse’s head, albeit in a more traditional and complex format.
The Broncos’ recent initiatives suggest the club is embracing change. One example came in their bold jersey switch to black during their game against the Gold Coast Titans, part of the club’s efforts to support Mental Health Round.
The black jersey—paired with black shorts and socks—was developed in collaboration with the Broncos’ Charity Partner, the Black Dog Institute, as a symbolic move to raise awareness and support for mental health. Proceeds from the jersey are being donated directly to the institute.
This latest logo development adds another layer to the Broncos’ evolution both on and off the field. While there is no confirmation yet that the new logo will appear on next season’s jerseys, the submission signals the club is taking steps toward a potential brand refresh in 2025.
