Queensland coach Billy Slater has dropped Beau Former ahead of State of Origin Game 2.

The Maroons debutant played just 17 minutes off the bench in the opener, but was heavily involved.

Warriors forward Kurt Capewell has been named in Fermor's place.

The 31-year-old has 10 games of Origin experience under his belt and will return to the arena for a must-win clash in Perth.

Slater noted Capewell's versatility and leadership as a key reason behind his selection.

"He’s playing in a team where no matter where he plays, he’s doing a great job," he said.

"They have a real team-first mindset at the Warriors, and he’s really leading that."

Daly Cherry-Evans' omission headlines the other adjustments made to the Maroons side.

Cowboys halfback Tom Dearden will step into the No. 7 jersey and pair with Cameron Munster in the halves.

Utility Kurt Mann has also been promoted to the pine.
