Darwin Nunez and Liverpool are ready to part ways in this summer transfer window.

Nunez fell further behind in Liverpool head coach Arne Slot's pecking order in the 2024/25 season, starting just 17 out of the 47 appearances he made, while only registering 14 goal contributions.

Several reports have suggested Nunez wants to make a move away from Anfield, to gain a regular starting role elsewhere, and Liverpool are open to a potential transfer if an offer matches their asking price.

Liverpool have set a price tag of around £50-60m [$67-80m] for Nunez with a host of sides registering interest in the former Benfica striker.

While the price tag for Nunez may startle most, the Reds are looking to cut their losses, considering they signed the Uruguayan star in 2022 for an initial fee of £64m [$85m], which could potentially rise to £85m [$114m] with add-ons.

Napoli have emerged as a top suitor for Nunez, who reportedly was also keen to join the Serie A side. The Italian champions submitted a formal offer for him, but it did not match Liverpool's demands.

Napoli have now informed Liverpool they are no longer pursuing a deal for Nunez, with the transfer fees viewed as too much, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Napoli have decided moved to secure a deal for Udinese striker Lorenzo Lucca on the back of scoring 12 Serie A goals last season.

Romano also reported that even though Napoli's potential deal fell through, Nunez is still expected to leave from Liverpool this summer, as the club await more offers.

The 26-year-old has also received attention from Saudi Pro League clubs, who are expected to be more open to Liverpool's ask for the player, but he is less keen to make the move to the Middle East.

Nunez's current contract with Liverpool is valid until the summer of 2028 and that further complicates any exit plan.
