Liverpool are continuing their hunt for a new attacker during the summer transfer window as they aim to defend their Premier League crown in the 2025/26 campaign.

The Reds are currently pushing to complete an eye-catching deal for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and they are reportedly willing to break the British transfer record for the second time in a single summer window.

However, a new No.9 is not the only position the Reds are looking to improve, as Liverpool are also looking at Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes, according to Diario AS

With Luis Diaz expressing his desire to leave Anfield this summer, Liverpool have already begun planning the succession process with Rodrygo.

The English champions are looking for a versatile attacker similar to Diaz, and the 24-year-old Brazilian fits that profile based on his time in Madrid.

There are consistent rumours of Rodrygo looking to leave the Spanish capital after he being left out of the Club World Cup semifinal starting XI against PSG.

The former Santos attacker has dropped in the pecking order at Real Madrid ever since Kylian Mbappe arrived at the club last summer.

Even Xabi Alonso seems to prefer Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler over him at this stage.

How much will Liverpool have to pay for Rodrygo?

Liverpool are reportedly looking to send an emissary to Madrid to initiate contract talks with Rodrygo and his representatives.

They are aware of Diaz’s current situation, as he is unhappy with his current salary and with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Saudi clubs showing interest, he wants out.

However, they are demanding a whopping £70m [$93m] asking fee for the Colombian winger as they continue to block his move to Bavaria.

If they do manage to sell Diaz, the club have a clear reinvestment plan on Rodrygo, as Real Madrid value him at a similar price.

Other Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Chelsea are also in the race, but Liverpool are rumoured to have the edge at the moment.

Rodrygo’s flexibility in attack makes him the ideal player for the Reds. He played 12 out of 54 games on the left last season, with 10 as centre forward and 31 games on the right.
