Ross Lyon says close Saints win was 'a bit disappointing' image

St Kilda coach Ross Lyon has expressed his frustration after a narrow two-point win against Essendon, which he labelled 'just a bit disappointing.’

The Saints won against the 15th placed Bombers at Marvel Stadium on Friday night, winning (11.11) 77 to (11.9) 75.

Out of contract, Saint Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera performed again for the club, collecting 24 disposals and kicking a goal as reports of where his future lies gain more traction by the day.

Lyon said his side fought the game out to win the close game against the Bombers, who have now lost 11 games in a row.

“We had no front-half game, and they pinned us first quarter in there and our ball use was poor, but look, in the end, I thought we fought on,” Lyon said in an interview on Fox Footy after the game

“We probably come with an expectation of a higher performance, but look at the end of the day, that's AFL footy, you’ve gotta fight.”

Lyon was asked about where the team is at the end of the year as they jump up to 11th place on the ladder.

“We’re just working really hard, we’re around teams that we think we can compete against and want to get across the line

“I really enjoyed our month before that, to be honest, our form [against] really Sydney, Hawthorn, Dockers and Collingwood, I really enjoyed that.”

Saints captain Jack Steele had a strong game with 27 disposals, while forwards Cooper Sharman and Jack Higgins both kicked three goals.

The Saints will take on GWS in their final match of the year, while Essendon will host arch-rivals Carlton at the MCG.
