Ross Lyon ends press conference early after St Kilda list management questions image

Ross Lyon abruptly wrapped up his weekly press conference on Wednesday, brushing aside questions about St Kilda’s list management and speculation over several out-of-contract players.

The Saints coach had already played down reports earlier in the day regarding Callum Wilkie’s alleged unhappiness and a $25m bid for West Coast’s Harley Reid.

But when pressed further by reporters, Lyon pushed back, questioning the credibility of recent stories about unrest within the club.

“Nothing frustrates me, to be honest, I’m not here for the laundry list of half-baked stories,” he said. “There’s not much credibility to it, to be honest.”

‘Enough is enough’

Reports have linked St Kilda to Carlton ruckman Tom de Koning and GWS defender Leek Aleer, while also highlighting efforts to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, who recently set an AFL record for most kicks in a season, and his close friend Marcus Windhager. Asked about Windhager’s form, Lyon was terse.

“(Windhager has) played pretty well, we keep picking him and he’s an important young player,” Lyon said. “All our players have (improved) … I am not here to go list management pre-game, going into a Friday game. Enough is enough, to be honest.”

Lyon denied being aware of any player unrest, adding: “I don’t get on my phone and go onto X and listen to garbage being reported with no rigour … What’s your journalistic rigour when you run with a story? I am not sure that was done.”

The media conference ended shortly after.
