Michael Voss future 'unsure', admits Carlton football boss image

Carlton football boss Brad Lloyd has admitted he is “unsure” whether he or head coach Michael Voss will remain at the club beyond next season, as scrutiny mounts following the Blues’ 50-point defeat to Port Adelaide.

Speaking at Melbourne Airport on Friday morning, Lloyd fronted the media after the club’s training base was vandalised with spray-painted demands for his and list manager Nick Austin’s removal. Among the graffiti, one message curiously spared Voss, suggesting the senior coach should stay.

Lloyd, however, said the current level of pressure on the club was immense and growing.

“The pressure, it’s enormous at the moment. We need to stick together as a club. There’s no other way around that, really,” Lloyd told reporters (via Zero Hanger).

No guarantees for 2026

Asked directly whether he or Voss were certain to be at Princes Park in 2026, Lloyd offered no assurances. “I’m unsure of that,” he said. “We’ll just stick at it and keep going to work. It’s for others to judge.”

While stopping short of a full endorsement, Lloyd said Voss was still coping amid the club’s recent struggles.

“I think [Voss] is going OK. He’s a competitor. He’s hurting, with our form, but he’s holding up pretty well. He’s a strong man.”

Despite being singled out by vandals, Lloyd threw his support behind Carlton’s board, calling it “very settled” and praising its consistency over the past few years.

“I couldn’t speak more highly of them. I think they’ve been very good for the club — a group that has stuck together.”
