Harley Reid’s management has reportedly proposed a long-term contract to the West Coast Eagles as they look to retain their number one pick.

The deal is reported to be as much as $20 million over a potential 10-year contract.

Journalist Ryan Daniels told Triple M that the deal is unusual as the management has offered the club a proposed deal, a reversal in traditional roles.

“The latest with this one is a bit of a strange one. Because my understanding is that Harley’s management ... they have put some options to the West Coast Eagles on the table to stay,” Daniels told Triple M.

“One of them in particular is a very long deal. I don’t know the specific number of years, but it was described to me as ‘very long’; so I would say you’re looking at that 9-10 (years) range.”

Daniels also commented that the Eagles haven’t done anything with the proposed offer, but per AFL rules, the deal would need to be presented to the Eagles board, who need to approve the deal.

Reid is contacted until the end of next season; however, there are plenty of suitors if he chooses to come back to his home state of Victoria, including Essendon, with Bombers coach Brad Scott publicly declaring his interest earlier this week if he chooses to move clubs.

Carlton star and unrestricted free agent Jack Silvagni could also look at a move away from the Blues, with a shock suitor named as a destination for the 128-gamer.

Collingwood is one team looking at signing the son of Carlton great Stephen Silvagni, according to the Herald Sun, as the Pies look to bolster their aging list and backline.

The Blues have reportedly offered a four-year deal, with the expectation that the Pies would also need to offer four or five years to secure the talented backman for their club.

Carlton could gain a second-round pick as compensation should Silvagni choose to leave.
