Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has slammed his side's performance after their 66-point loss to arch-rival Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions were well beaten by their fellow Queensland team in the QClash on a wet day on the Gold Coast, losing (9.10) 64 to (20.10) 130.

Suns superstar Matt Rowell won the best on ground medal after he gathered 37 disposals, 12 tackles and 730 metres gained.

Fagan said his side, who could drop from second to third if Adelaide wins tonight, had a game to forget.

“Outside the first 10 minutes of the game, we had a game to forget,” Fagan said in his post-match press conference.

“We haven’t played as poorly as that in a long, long time, and credit for that goes to the Gold Coast Suns. I’m not sitting here saying it was just us.”

Fagan added that he believes his team will respond next week when they take on ladder leaders Collingwood at the MCG.

“I’m confident our group will respond; they normally do. Those who have been following the Lions wouldn’t have seen a performance like that too often in the last six years,” he said.

“We’ve been really good for quite a few weeks in a row, so there’s no good jumping at shadows.”

The Suns’ win has cemented them in the top eight as they currently sit one and a half games ahead of ninth, as they look to play finals for the first time in their history
