Premiership coach blasts Melbourne over 'unacceptable' sacking of Goodwin image

Four-time premiership coach David Parkin has revealed his disappointment with the way Melbourne sacked coach Simon Goodwin last week.

Goodwin was sacked by the board, with president Brad Green saying part of the reason was to give the players a new voice, a reason not completely agreed by all players.

Parkin, who has coached Carlton to three premierships and Hawthorn to one premiership, said that as a lifelong fan of Melbourne, he was surprised by how the sacking was handled by the club.

"I’ve been a Melbourne supporter since 1949, and I was interested to follow that. I was, I must admit, totally and utterly surprised by the result, and the manner in which it was carried out," Parkin said on SEN's Whateley.

"I was really disappointed with the club, in a time where they are making so many changes off the field themselves – they haven’t got an administration that I would have thought operated in the way it should be at this time."

Parkin continued to explain that he thought sacking Goodwin before the season's end was in poor taste.

“But to do it at this time, in the way it was done, I thought was totally and utterly unacceptable," he said.

“I don’t know him as a person; I’ve only seen the public view, as you and I have seen of him as a coach.

“I just thought it was totally unacceptable, in the manner which it was done.”

The Demons had just three games left in the season when they sacked Goodwin, who opted not to coach the last three games after being given his marching orders.

The Demons will start their coaching search soon with a hope to have a coach named by grand final week
