The career of GWS icon Callan Ward could be over after he suffered a suspected ACL injury in the three-point win against Richmond.

Ward went down clutching his knee in the first term and looked distressed as he was helped from the field by two trainers.

The 35-year-old returned to address the Giants players at three-quarter-time with the team trailing by 28 points.

His speech inspired his GWS team-mates to kick five goals to none in the last quarter to break Richmond hearts.

Giants coach Adam Kingsley admitted it was a likely ACL for Ward and spoke of what the injury means.

"It doesn't look great. Obviously incredibly disappointing for our footy club … such an important person, important player," Kingsley said.

"I don't know what it'll look like for the rest of the season but he'll be around supporting us.

"He's a fantastic clubman, he sees the game really well and there's no doubt that he'll add value in whatever he does. It just won't be on the field, unfortunately."

If Ward has suffered an ACL injury, he would likely not be fit to play until after the 2026 season starts.
