Carlton notched just their second win in nine matches on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to change AFL great Matthew Lloyd’s belief that the Blues should consider moving on from one of Charlie Curnow or Harry McKay.
The Blues made light work of a struggling Port Adelaide side, putting the Power to the sword to win by 54 points.
Carlton were without their two-time Coleman medallist Charlie Curnow, who is out for the rest of the season with a knee concern.
But in his star teammate’s absence, Harry McKay was freed up to deliver a season-high seven goals, a performance that has convinced Lloyd that the Blues should consider cashing in on one of their key forwards in the upcoming trade period.

“Now we wonder, what do they do? Do they make a big, bold call on… Charlie Curnow?” Lloyd posed on The Sunday Footy Show.
“Do they think to themselves ‘Okay, with what Harry (McKay) did, can we bolster our midfield?’
“Cause I don’t think Harry and Charlie work that well together, they sort of get in each other’s way.
“‘I know we don’t wanna lose Charlie, but is a midfielder more what we need right now to get ourselves a chance to be in the mix in the next year or two?’”
The futures of both Curnow and McKay have been subjected to heavy speculation over the course of a disappointing season for the Blues.
Curnow was recently reported to be exploring a move interstate, with it being suggested the 28-year-old was potentially interested in joining the Gold Coast Suns.
Curnow looked to put any rumours to rest, saying shortly after that he’ll be “playing at Carlton next year,” but that hasn’t stopped speculation from continuing to rear its head.
Meanwhile, McKay has often been put forward as a name Carlton could look to move as both him and the team have dealt with form fluctuations throughout the Michael Voss era.
Voss was recently assured his job for next year, but new Blues’ CEO Graham Wright hasn’t been afraid to make changes despite only just assuming the role, with football boss Brad Lloyd (the brother of Matthew) recently dismissed from his duties, effective at the end of the season.
