Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic will not be present at next week's 1000 Masters event in Toronto after withdrawing from the tournament.
The news comes as the hardcourt season begins to take shape in North America over the coming weeks, culminating at the year's final Grand Slam, the US Open, in late August.
The two tennis stars are confirmed to not be taking to the court in Canada as rest is required for them after grueling clay and grass seasons.
Sinner picked up an elbow injury during his run at Wimbledon earlier this month, which he managed to play through on route to winning his first title at SW19 after beating Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic also appeared to be in large discomfort during his recent run at Wimbledon after taking a nasty fall during the latter stages of his quarter-final win over Flavio Cobolli. This affected him in his eventual semi-final loss to Sinner as he was visibly struggling to move well on the court.
Sinner, now a four-time major winner after his success at SW19, is devastated to miss the event in the Canadian capital due to winning the tournament two years ago.
He commented: "I’m really disappointed to be missing the National Bank Open in Toronto, especially as I have such fond memories of playing in Canada.

"Winning that title in Toronto two years ago was the start of a really special moment for me, but after speaking with my team, I have to prioritise my health. I’m looking forward to returning to Canada and Toronto in the future to play in front of the great fans."
Being in top physical shape for the final Grand Slam of 2025 in New York next month is a priority for Sinner and Djokovic. For Sinner it is a chance for him to cement his position as the world's top ranked player and win successive titles at Flushing Meadows.
Whereas for Djokovic, it is another chance to add to his 24 Grands Slams and stand alone as the most successful player at majors in both the men's and ladies' game. However, at 38 years of age, time is running out for the Serbian and there may only be a few more chances to reach 25 major title wins.
It is not yet known if Djokovic and Sinner will play at the 1000 Masters event in Cincinnati in early August.
Among the other notable names that will be absent in Toronto next week is Britain's Jack Draper, as the 23-year-old revealed he picked up a left arm injury whilst competing at Wimbledon.
