Cam Ward stats today: Titans rookie struggles in second preseason start vs. Falcons image

With his Titans starting job all but locked in, Cam Ward is just weeks away from making his official NFL debut. On Friday, though, the recent No. 1 pick was on the field for preseason action, getting more real-speed reps in against the Falcons.

Ward played a total of three drives in the exhibition matchup vs. Atlanta, initially flashing his arm talent but overall not doing anything notable following a 67-yard preseason debut against Tampa Bay.

While he wasn't playing with some of Tennessee's starters, including top receiver Calvin Ridley, Ward struggled to keep his offense moving in limited snaps for Week 2 of the preseason.

Cam Ward stats today

  • Completions/Attempts: 2/7
  • Passing Yards: 42
  • AVG: 6.0
  • Passing TDs: 0
  • Interceptions: 0
  • Rating: 52.1
  • Rushing Yards: 0

Ward played a total of three drives, which was about what was expected based on reports entering the preseason game. From there, Brandon Allen took over at quarterback for Tennessee.

Although it lasted just five plays, Ward's first drive was his best. His first pass was a 35-yard completion to rookie Elic Ayomanor, and his second was a nicely placed downfield ball to Van Jefferson that was dropped.

He threw for just seven more yards on one more completion, and all three of his drives ended in punts for the Titans. Granted, Ward was playing without RG Kevin Zietler plus WRs Calvin Ridley and Tyler Lockett, who all should play key roles in the regular season, but the No. 1 pick couldn't find much momentum with the rest of the offense.

“I’m very encouraged,” Callahan said postgame on Ward's performance via ProFootballTalk. “That ball he threw that got dropped was an unbelievable throw. He’s shown all the things that we needed to see from an operations standpoint."

Allen's first drive ended in an interception, then he threw a touchdown to Gunnar Helm before halftime. However, all signs remain that Ward will be starting the 2025 season as Tennessee's starter.

Cam Ward preseason highlights vs. Falcons

Ward's best series was his first. On his opening throw, he rolled to his right, then found Ayomanor open for what became a 35-yard play.

The only other particularly notable play from Ward was actually an incompletion, but one that had much more to do with his receiver. Van Jefferson couldn't quite haul in what was a precise pass in a tight window over three Falcons defenders:

The rest of the way, Ward had just one more completion. However, here's a good look at his full outing, including the incompletions:

Cam Ward preseason stats

Through two preseason games, here are Ward's numbers:

  • Completions/Attempts: 7/15
  • Passing Yards: 109
  • AVG: 7.3
  • Passing TDs: 0
  • Interceptions: 0
  • Rushing Yards: 0

Whether the Titans will send Ward out for their last preseason game remains to be seen, but he'd have one more opportunity to improve on those numbers on Aug. 22 against the Vikings.
