Kareem Hunt's best NFL days are behind him.

But there's one thing the Kansas City Chiefs running back does as well as anyone in the NFL.

ESPN's Bill Barnwell pointed it out in a new article: Hunt is a superstar in short-yardage situations.

"Limiting this pick to backs who aren't standouts in other ways, the best option is Hunt, who was forced into a lead role with the Chiefs last season after Isiah Pacheco went down and rookie Carson Steele fumbled away his opportunity," Barnwell writes. "Hunt wasn't great, but the one thing he did well was convert in short yardage. He went 15-of-18 (83.3%) in those situations, one year after he went 15-of-20 (75%) in those same spots for the Browns."

The Chiefs don't want to run sneaks with Patrick Mahomes, Barnwell writes, so Hunt's role was crucial.

Kansas City's running back depth chart this season should also feature a healthy Pacheco along with new signee Elijah Mitchell.

"It would be a surprise if the Chiefs relied on Hunt in a featured role again in 2025," Barnwell writes. "However, he could still be a useful third running back in the right situations."

Travis Kelce makes big announcement on retirement plans

Hunt will turn 30 years old on August 6, the age that most running backs are viewed as totally in decline.

He's not explosive anymore, but he clearly still has some specialty value. Andy Reid certainly knows how to make use of his players' talents, so Hunt should still be useful for Kansas City.
