Though the Houston Astros have a laundry list of players suffering from injury, one of them could be off that list very soon, as Cristian Javier's rehab has gone well with Triple-A Sugar Land.
So well in fact, that according to Astros manager Joe Estrada, Javier's next time on a mound could be in the majors back with the Astros.
Should that ring true, Javier would make his season debut for the team on Sunday in their final game of a series with the New York Yankees in The Bronx.
Whether Estrada wants to give the starter an extra day of rest or not, that is completely up to him, but Javier can definitely expect to see the major league dirt again within the next three or four days.
For precaution's sake, it might make sense for the Astros skipper to wait until Monday when they begin their series at home against the Boston Red Sox, where third baseman Carlos Correa will play his first home game as a member of the Astros since 2021.
Javier's current career stat line reads a 33-18 record with a 3.59 ERA and 564 strikeouts, and was part of two combined no-hitters in 2022, including the one the Astros threw in Game 4 of the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, a series that brought them their second World Series championship.
