The Houston Astros are still in the lead in the American League West despite their injured list featuring five players from their Opening Day lineup, most notably their slugging designated hitter Yordan Alvarez.
But the biggest question mark that has hovered over the team as of late is their starting pitching, besides Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez, both of whom have been stellar as per usual for the team on the mound, but after those two take the bump, the latter three spots in the rotation remain a mystery, especially after Lance McCullers Jr. landed back on the injured list with a finger blister.
According to Dylan Sanders from Houston Astros On SI, the two-time World Series champions could go with a riskier option at solving the problem by picking up RHP Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins.
With a 3.48 earned run average and 92 strikeouts in 88 innings in the 2025 season so far, this isn't a bad projection, but Cabrera is a riskier option for a reason, as injuries have plagued the righty in recent years.
"The biggest worry, especially given Houston's injury troubles this year, is his durability. He has never thrown over 100 innings before in his career, but he should break that streak with 88 already thrown this season," Sanders wrote.
With the Marlins struggling heavily in the National League East, they're almost guaranteed to be sellers, which would make this deal all the more possible to become reality and give Houston that third reliable starter they've been looking for.
