Formula One relocates to Europe for the latter part of May and early June. The Monaco Grand Prix, the sport's jewel in the crown, takes place this weekend.
Max Verstappen breathed life into his quest for a fifth driver's championship win when he took victory at Imola last time out, the Dutch star passing rival Oscar Piastri on the opening lap.
McLaren responded to that setback in style, with Lando Norris taking pole position in Monte Carlo ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Piastri in third. Verstappen took P5, one place behind Lewis Hamilton, leaving him with a major challenge if he wanted to win this prestigious race for a third time.

Here is how the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix played out.
Who won the F1 race today?
Lando Norris won the Monaco Grand Prix after a disciplined drive on Sunday capped a perfect weekend for the McLaren driver.
Verstappen led the race heading into the final lap, but as he had to make another pit stop to comply with race regulations, Norris knew that the chequered flag would be his as long as he kept his cool.
Charles Leclerc, winner in 2024, was second. The home favourite had questioned whether Ferrari could compete this weekend, but he delivered a strong performance to finish ahead of Oscar Piastri.
F1 introduced new rules for the grand prix this weekend that stated drivers must use at least three different sets of tyres, which meant a minimum of two pit stops. It was hoped that these changes would "inject some excitement" into a race that is traditionally low on incident given the difficult of overtaking on a narrow street circuit.
As it transpired, Racing Bulls and Williams made good use of the regulation changes, with Liam Lawson and Alexander Albon driving at a slow pace at key points of the race to hold up traffic and allow give their teammates the best chance of points finishes. RB claimed P6 and P8, with Williams managing P9 and P10.
Ultimately, it turned into a race that was more about pit stops than on-track performance, but that should not detract from Norris' exceptional performance in qualifying and composed drive on Sunday.
