Formula 1 veteran Fernando Alonso has publicly thrown his support behind Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovich, endorsing the Brazilian for a race seat with the new Cadillac F1 team in 2026.
Cadillac is set to join the F1 grid as the 11th team in the 2026 season, and their driver line-up is one of the most anticipated announcements in the sport.
While veteran drivers like Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas are widely considered front-runners for the seats, Alonso has made a clear case for Drugovich to be given the opportunity.
"It would be great to see him in F1," Alonso said.
"He has an incredible talent, Formula 2 was a demonstration. We can see it here every day when we work with him."
Drugovich, who won the Formula 2 championship in 2022, has been part of the Aston Martin team as a reserve driver.

He has gained valuable experience participating in multiple free practice sessions and tests, consistently impressing the team with his performance.
Despite the strong backing from a two-time world champion, Drugovich faces stiff competition.
Cadillac has not yet confirmed its drivers, and with the team reportedly seeking a mix of experience and youth, the battle for the seats remains open.
The ultimate decision will be crucial for the team's debut season.
