Tottenham boss Thomas Frank could sanction a major sale in the coming weeks as Atletico Madrid chase Cristian Romero.
The La Liga giants have added Romero to their summer transfer wish list with Diego Simeone openly stating his interest bringing his fellow Argentinian to the Spanish capital.
Simeone is plotting a squad overhaul and wants the 27-year-old as his defensive leader after missing out on Liverpool star Andy Robertson.
Frank has spoken to Romero over the link to Los Rojiblancos, and despite the Dane's preference to keep him at Spurs, the former Atalanta centre-back is ready to move on if a suitable offer arrives.
Reports from Spanish outlet Diario AS claim Atletico Madrid are willing to pay €55m [£47m] with €15m [£13m] in variables but Frank wants the full €70m [£50m] up front to consider a sale.
That stand-off could prove crucial, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy prepared to dig in over the details, as Romero is under contract in North London until 2027.

If Atletico Madrid meet Spurs' demands - or find a middle ground in the negotiations - Frank will be given the bulk of that £50m to launch a club record transfer offer for Crystal Palace talisman Eberechi Eze.

Tottenham plot Eze move as Romero accepts Atletico Madrid offer
Tottenham have been tracking England star Eze since the start of the summer - alongside interest from arch rivals Arsenal - with Eagles facing a battle to keep the 27-year-old at Selhurst Park.

Eze netted eight Premier League goals and registered eight assists last season, but his crowning moment came in the 1-0 FA Cup final win over Manchester City, to secure Palace's first-ever major trophy.
There is a growing sense of Eze now being ready to take the next step and play in the UEFA Champions League but Oliver Glasner will demand his full £67.5m release clause in South London - which would set a new transfer benchmark for Tottenham.
