Rodrygo Goes' future at Real Madrid has become clearer following a busy few days of Premier League transfer activity.

The Brazil international had been linked with a summer departure from the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu amid rumours of him not fitting into Xabi Alonso's plans.

A reduced role at the FIFA Club World Cup only bolstered those rumours with Premier League duo Liverpool and Arsenal open to offers for the 24-year-old.

Rodrygo's first preference was to remain in Madrid, and force his way back into Alonso's thinking, with the Spanish coach remaining open to keeping him at the club.

However, with Los Blancos eyeing a potential £70m transfer demand from his two English suitors, the chance of a major payday was prioritised by club president Florentino Perez.

Rodrygo's current contract runs until 2028, so Perez's position remained strong, but Arne Slot and Mikel Arteta have looked elsewhere.

Slot is still in the hunt for a potential Premier League transfer record offer for Newcastle United talisman Alexander Isak on the back of completing a £69m swoop for Hugo Ekitike.

Arsenal have also secured their primary target, with an £55m initial fee paid out for Viktor Gyokeres, following weeks of negotiations with Sporting CP.

What next for Rodrygo at Real Madrid?

With Arsenal and Liverpool now out of the Rodrygo race, there is still lingering interest from PSG, but the most likely scenario is a continuation in Madrid.

14 goals in all competitions in 2024/25 was a drop from his previous two campaigns, but he is still a potent operator for Real Madrid, with Alonso now challenged to reintegrate him back into the squad.

Jude Bellingham's injury absence will impact Real Madrid's attack - and heighten the role of Rodrygo - but he could be shuffled in-field slightly in Alonso's 2025/26 revamp.
