Real Madrid could make a bold move to challenge El Clasico rivals Barcelona in a major summer transfer race.
Xabi Alonso has already secured deals for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen as part of his defensive rebuild in the Spanish capital,
Argentina international Franco Mastantuono will arrive in Madrid when he turns 18 in mid-August - but Alonso is also looking to reinforce his attack ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Hansi Flick stormed to a trophy treble in his debut 2024/25 season in charge in Catalonia, but the German coach is also looking for fresh faces, with Nico Williams leading his shortlist.
Flick has already landed Joan Garcia as his new No.1 and the club are working overtime to secure a deal for Williams from Athletic Club.
His current side will not budge on their demand for the full £50m release clause in his contract but Barcelona are yet to make a formal offer.

Barcelona's financial position has improved in the last 12 months, but the club are still operating within a 1:1 transfer policy, and that gives Los Blancos a window of opportunity.
Luis Figo makes Nico Williams transfer prediction
That uncertainty in Catalonia could play into Real Madrid's hands, if Alonso opts to push for the 22-year-old, and Figo believes they could swoop in.
"It depends on the budget I'd have for signing players [as Real Madrid manager," he told Diario AS.

"There are a lot of players I like. I’d definitely sign Nico Williams. He’s a gem.
"For that price - considering what clubs are paying today - it seems reasonable because of his quality and age.
"I’m speaking from a market perspective, because for value and price, I think he’s a bargain."
Real Madrid have not registered an active interest in Williams, but Alonso will keep an eye on the situation, if Barcelona are unable to broker a deal to bring in the Spain international.
