After the recent Women’s Euros, where the English Lionesses put on a nail-biting campaign to become two-time European champions, women’s football in the United Kingdom is undeniably in the spotlight.

This growth is evident right through to grassroots level, as Welsh side Wrexham A.F.C. have recently announced their purchase of a new stadium for the women’s team.

Where is Wrexham A.F.C. Women’s new stadium?

Wrexham A.F.C. announced the completion of the sale of The Rock in Rhosymedre in North Wales on August 5, which will become the dedicated stadium and training centre for their women’s team.

The 3,000 capacity stadium, which includes a stand seating 512 spectators, has been the team’s home since the summer of 2023, as well as being the base of the Welsh domestic side, the Cefn Druids, since 2010.

This purchase, alongside the appointment in July of Jenny Sugarman as Head Coach of Wrexham Women demonstrates the club’s commitment to expanding and investing in their female team.

Speaking on the purchase, Wrexham’s CEO Michael Williamson described this moment as a “significant milestone for the club”, and was vocal about the club’s future plans, focusing on upgrading the “pitch, stadium and surrounding infrastructure”.

This investment will not only benefit Wrexham Women as a competitive club, but also provides key funding for grassroots football in the area, allowing for the magnitude of women’s football to only continue to grow.

Who are Wrexham A.F.C.?

Wrexham took to the spotlight after it was bought by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2020, who have invested heavily into its future - as well as filming the popular show Welcome to Wrexham chronicling the club’s journey.

The women’s team have been moving from strength to strength since this investment, earning promotion into the Adran Premier League, which is the highest level of Welsh women’s football, for the 2023/24 season.

Their recent efforts have been impressive and herald an exciting chapter, as they finished fourth in the recent 2024/25 season, and reached the final of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup in April 2025, eventually losing 3 - 1 to champions Cardiff City.
