One of Australia's brightest stars has found a new club, with Nestory Irankunda reportedly preparing to sign with English team Watford.
Irankunda, 19, joined German heavyweights Bayern Munich in mid-2024, and most recently played on loan for Swiss team Grasshopper Club Zurich, but he will now make the trip to the United Kingdom.
According to insider Fabrizio Romano, the Australian will sign a four-year deal, with FC Bayern retaining a buy-back clause on the permanent move.
Nestory Irankunda reportedly preparing to sign with Watford
Nestory Irankunda will continue his career in the EFL Championship, signing with Watford on a four-year deal.
After beginning his career with Adelaide United, Irankunda joined FC Bayern, who have now sold him on to the team just outside of London.
"It’s been unreal, it’s a good challenge," he told Optus Sport of his move to FC Bayern earlier this year.
"It’s a lot different to the A-League… their technique is unreal.
"My first session, I couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t really seeing Harry Kane, it was mostly seeing Vincent Kompany, the coach. He’s a legend and he’s been in the game for quite a while, so seeing him was unreal.
"Obviously you want to be playing, you want to be playing at a top level, first league, first division and at a good club also.
"I’ve been in talks with the club and also the coaches about going on loan, because I feel like it will be better for me. I have to be playing, I can’t keep playing under-23’s every week. So I’m in talks with them, and hopefully I get a club soon."
Get a club he has, with a medical now the only thing standing in the way of Irankunda becoming the newest member of Watford.
