Altay Bayindir failed to clear a Declan Rice corner, which led to Riccardo Calafiori heading in Arsenal's winner over Manchester United in the Premier League

Bayindir got the nod to start, with Ruben Amorim revealing that Ander Onana had recovered from his injury and was dropped.

The mistake by the Turkish goalkeeper was costly, and it could accelerate United's search to sign a new player in the position.

According to The Sun, "United are making hush-hush checks about a remarkable return for keeper and club legend David de Gea."

Could United really re-sign David de Gea?

De Gea recently impressed in a pre-season match at Old Trafford, playing against his former club for Fiorentina.

At the game, the Spanish keeper was presented with a framed photo collage of him in action for United. This was a nice touch as De Gea was not given a proper goodbye to the United supporters when his contract with the club expired in 2023.

De Gea then spent a year out of the game before playing for Fiorentina last season. The goalkeeper helped the Italian side finish sixth in Serie A last season, which qualified them for the Europa Conference League.

The Red Devils have given former players a chance once again in the past. They re-signed Jonny Evans in the summer of 2023 when De Gea departed the club. It could now be time for De Gea to return to the club in their time of need.
