Alexander Isak's massive wage demand rocks Newcastle United image

Newcastle United's summer transfer window has been anything but quiet, and the latest reports from TalkSPORT suggest a bombshell demand from star striker Alexander Isak could further complicate matters.

According to the broadcaster, Isak is reportedly seeking an eye-watering £300,000 per week to sign a new contract, a figure that would shatter the club's current wage structure.

The news comes amidst intensifying speculation linking the Swedish international with a move away from St James' Park, with Liverpool and Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal both mentioned as interested parties.

While Newcastle have consistently maintained that Isak is not for sale, the alleged wage demands put them in a difficult position.

Isak's current deal runs until 2028, meaning Newcastle is under no immediate pressure to sell or renegotiate, however, his stellar performances last season, which saw him score 23 Premier League goals and play a key role in the club's Carabao Cup victory, have significantly increased his market value and, it seems, his perceived worth to himself and his representatives.

Should the £300,000-a-week figure prove accurate, it would represent a substantial leap beyond the club's current highest earners, reportedly led by Bruno Guimarães.

Caving to such demands could risk unsettling the existing squad and create internal pressure for similar pay rises, potentially leading to the wage structure issues that other top clubs have faced.

With Liverpool reportedly agreeing a deal for Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike, their immediate pursuit of Isak might have cooled, but Al-Hilal's interest remains potent.

The coming weeks will be crucial for Newcastle as they navigate these significant contract negotiations and attempts to ward off suitors, all while maintaining squad harmony and focusing on their upcoming season.
