Newcastle kicked off their Premier League campaign with a goalless draw against Aston Villa.

The club was without their star man, Alexander Isak, who is still adamant he won't play for the club amid links to Liverpool.

Eddie Howe is looking for a striker to fill in for Isak and to boost their trophy hopes for the season.

One target is Brentford's Yoane Wissa, and the Brentford boss issued a statement on Wissa's future as the player missed the Premier League opener.

What did the Brentford boss say about Newcastle target Wissa?

When asked about the situation with Wissa, Brentford boss Keith Andrews said, "It's a day-by-day one in terms of Wiss.

"As far as I know, nothing else has happened today, definitely didn't yesterday, so as it was really."

Wissa was left out of Brentford's squad against Nottingham Forest due to the whirlwind summer the player has had.

Andrews continued, "I have no idea what the situation will be, I have been up here since yesterday, so we will deal with that during the week.

"Hopefully, it can resolve itself sooner rather than later."

Should he join Newcastle, Wissa would join Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard in leaving the Bees this summer for rival clubs.

Brentford were aiming not to lose both Wissa and Mbeumo this summer, but Wissa's stance seems to be that he wants to leave the club.
