It has been a stuttering summer transfer window for Newcastle United as they have struggled to secure their targets.

The only major signing that the Magpies have made this summer is luring Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest

Many fans believed that Newcastle United would have a big transfer window after qualifying for the Champions League last season.

However, things have taken a different turn, and now even their star striker, Alexander Isak, has submitted a transfer request.

The Swedish striker has attracted interest from Liverpool and also from Saudi Pro League heavyweights Al Hilal.

Therefore, as per reports from David Ornstein, Newcastle United are showing interest in RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko as a replacement for Isak.

Sesko, who was linked for a long time with a move to Arsenal, saw the Gunners move on from him due to Leipzig's outrageous demands.

Interestingly, other than Sesko, Newcastle are also monitoring Brentford's Yoanne Wissa, who is also linked with Tottenham Hotspur

How much would Sesko cost for Newcastle United?

After studying the market following their negotiations with Arsenal for the Slovenian, Leipzig have lowered the asking fee to €70-80m plus €5-10m add-ons.

Even after lowering their asking price, it would still be a big financial decision for the Magpies.

Also, considering Sesko has a contract till 2029, Leipzig are under no compulsion to sell the 22-year-old despite finishing below Champions League positions last season.

Sesko could be a great addition to Eddie Howe's system, but he is a lot different from Isak and would offer a completely different outlet in Eddie Howe's system.

Sesko finished the 2024/25 season netting 21 goals in 45 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit across all competitions.

Standing at 6'5'', he possesses the technical finesse and the physical dominance in the air and also on the ground to wrestle past defenders in the final third.

While the 22-year-old Slovenian has the talent to succeed in England but he is nowhere near Isak, who has already proven himself in the Premier League

So it would be a huge gamble for the Magpies to spend the big bucks on the young marksman.
