Ruben Amorim is hoping for a Manchester United revival this season.

The Portuguese coach endured a mixed first six months in Manchester after replacing Erik ten Hag in November 2024.

The Red Devils ended the 2024/25 Premier League campaign in 15th position - their lowest-ever EPL ranking - before losing the UEFA Europa League final to Tottenham.

That means no European competition for Amorim's side this season, with a major rebuild ongoing, and £198m spent on new players this summer.

The focus has been on refreshing his misfiring attack with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all arriving at Old Trafford.

Amorim is quietly confident of an instant impact from his new charges with more new faces on the horizon amid growing interest in Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba.

The challenge will be to bring United back into contention for European qualification and club icon Wayne Rooney is feeling confident over Amorim's objectives.

"I think Man United need one or two more signings, but I see what Amorim is doing. It's looking better for the club and I think they will sneak into the top five. I hope they do!" as per BBC Sport.

As part of his predictions, Rooney also backed Liverpool to retain their title, with Arsenal finishing second yet again.

United kick off their 2025/26 season at home to the Gunners on August 17. Amorim's side knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup last season but they have lost four and drawn one of their last five league meetings with Mikel Arteta.
