Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has issued a stark warning to Benjamin Sesko over his decision to join the Old Trafford club, suggesting the Slovenian striker would have had a much better chance to develop his game at Newcastle.
The comments come as Sesko, 22, is on the verge of completing a £72.5 million move to Manchester United from RB Leipzig, a deal which saw the Red Devils beat out fierce competition from Newcastle.
Scholes, a veteran of over 700 appearances for United, questioned the move from a development perspective.
Speaking on 'The Overlap' he said, "What I'm trying to say as well is, he'll have more chance at Newcastle to develop, which he needs,"
"Now, to be a Manchester United centre-forward, as we've found with Højlund, as a 22-year-old kid, you've got to be ready. It's got to be now."
The former midfielder's words carry significant weight given the struggles of Hojlund, who joined United at a similar age and for a similar fee.

Hojlund has been critiqued for not being a finished product and has had little time to develop away from the intense scrutiny of Old Trafford.
While Scholes admitted that "you can't turn down Man United over Newcastle,"
The deal for Sesko is a major coup for United and their manager Ruben Amorim, but Scholes's words serve as a sobering reality check.
They highlight the immense pressure that comes with being a high-profile signing for one of the world's biggest clubs, a pressure that a move to Newcastle might have, in Scholes's view, mitigated.
